Latino Medical Student Association Spring Scholarships

Scholarships for the 2025-2026 year are awarded at our Northeast Regional Conference in March 2026. All scholarships are open to Northeast LMSA members only.

Conference Travel Awards

  • Dr. Joseph Lopez Travel Scholarship

    • This award is given in honor of Dr. Joseph Lopez, former National/Regional Conference Chair (2011-2012) and current Chief Innovation Officer & Chief of Pediatric Head & Neck Surgery at AdventHealth for Children. Dr. Lopez is the first dual fellowship-trained head and neck surgeon and pediatric craniofacial surgeon in the United States.

      Born to Salvadoran-immigrant parents and raised in underserved communities, Dr. Lopez achieved remarkable success, including earning degrees from Stanford University, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard Business School. He also founded the LMSA chapter at Harvard Medical School and has made significant contributions to scientific research, surgical advancements, and education.

      The recipient of this award will receive $1000 to support their LMSA chapter's travel and housing expenses to attend the Spring 2026 LMSA Northeast Regional Conference.

Spring Scholarships

  • Transition to Residency Scholarship​

    • This scholarship was established to support 4th year LMSA Northeast medical students in their transition into residency.

  • VSLO Application Scholarship (2 available)​

    • This scholarship was established to defray the costs of away rotations for 3rd year medical students. Away rotations are “audition” rotations at other programs different from your own. You apply for these amazing experiences in AAMC’s VSLO (Visiting Student Learning Opportunities) portal. You may also hear them called “acting internship” (AI) or “sub-internship” (Sub-I). LMSA NE wants you to be able to afford these applications and participating in the AI when accepted!

  • LMSA+ Medical School Application Award

    • This award was established to support premed LMSA+ members in the Northeast region by offering a scholarship to cover costs for the medical school application process. One of LMSA's missions is to provide mentorship and increasing the pipeline of diverse medical students.

  • Medical Licensing Support Award​

    • This award was established to financially support LMSA Northeast medical students paying for their medical licensing exams. We want you to highlight how LMSA has contributed to your goals as a future physician. 

    • Deadline: February 7th, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST

    • Award amount: Full amount of one licensing exam
