![]() During the month of January 2020, the island of Puerto Rico suffered from a wave of earthquakes that shook the island to its core and forced many people to leave their homes in fear. The Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) – a 501(c)(3) accredited non-profit organization – wants to help. We are also calling all of our members and friends to join us. Our mission is clear: we want to help people in need, and this is a perfect time to do so. To best help, we have partnered with a local non-profit organization in Puerto Rico, Iniciativa Comunitaria. This group of hardworking people has a similar mission to the LMSA, which is to help improve outcomes for those in need. Thus, we believe they would be the perfect recipient of the funds collected here, which will be used with the goal of providing relief to people who have suffered the effects of these earthquakes. We encourage you to donate as much as you are able. To further incentivize donations, we are promoting a healthy/friendly competition between the regions that represent the LMSA: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West and Southeast. We ask that if you donate in behalf of any of these, that you please (1) identify the LMSA chapter you donate for, and (2) the region which it falls under. Ideally a short message such as: ________ (Chapter) LMSA, ______ (NE, SE, MW, W or SW) Region Let’s help our island neighbors get back on their feet! (LMSA National will collect the funds and distribute them to the organization at the end of this campaign. Up to 4 complimentary National Conference registrations will be awarded to the chapter which raises the most funds.)
